A: Native sorting button blocks other sorting orders Now that we have filters, we should remove the native button and add a toggle for native (non-imported) posts to the filter options. As you point out, "native" is not, logically speaking, a sort but a binary property. (Edit: Apparently, as discussed in comments, it is implemented as a sort now, but... (more) |

A: Can I please ask questions from the search page? This makes sense. The search-results page isn't "in" a category (same as the list of users, help, and some other pages aren't), so we'll need to add something to choose what category to create the post in. I'll do some poking around and see what it'll take to do that. (more) |

A: Can we have the ability to create tags without being linked to a question? Users with the Edit Tags ability now can create tags directly using the "New" button on the Tags page: tags page from EE Q&A with 'new' button The Edit Tags ability cannot currently be earned naturally through the abilities system because of some other technical debt we need to fix, but moderat... A: Let moderators grant abilities. You can. On the user's profile, click "Moderator tools" and then choose "privileges" from there. (I'm sorry about the unclear name there.) A "Moderator tools" button on Olin Lathrop's user profile; the button has been pressed, showing several options, including "privileges" which has been circ... (more) |

A: Confusing behavior of tags shared between categories We improved this a while ago but the bug didn't get closed so I didn't come update here, sorry. The counts are still totals across all relevant categories, because filtering for the current category would be too hard. We changed the text at the top from "tags for $category" to "tags used in $cate... (more) |

@#8058 no plagiarism involved! It's better to have it in an answer where it's demonstrably more visible. :-) I'm glad you added it. (more) |

A: How can Codidact be independent from Stack Exchange, when you have same moderators? This is a fair question. I haven't discussed this answer with Mithical, but I'll give you my perspective. The Codidact project aims to do better (much better!) than Stack Exchange in some important ways, most notably how we serve and involve the community. I think it's fair to say that Stack Exc... I think part of the confusion is from terminology. Your user name is actually a *display name*, and those don't have to be unique. Your *user ID* must be unique, and that's the number. By analogy, your email address must be unique, but the name that shows up alongside it in your "from" line needn'... (more) |

Other instances can set whatever policies they like, yes. The repository comes with placeholders for terms of service, code of conduct, etc. that other networks can populate. On codidact.com we require attribution for anything you didn't create yourself. If a source doesn't require that in its lic... (more) |

We originally envisioned free-form links, so you could specify the platform and the username/link/whatever -- choose Twitter, GitHub, Tumblr, whatever. I'm not sure what happened to that idea. (As it turns out, this is what Mastodon does, though I hadn't seen that yet back in 2019 or 2020 when we w... (more) |

A: Proposal: Human-readable profile URLs User names don't have to be unique (and platforms that require uniqueness tend to frustrate people who end up being Mike792 or whatever), so we need the numbers. Given that we need to include the number, we went for the shortest URL that uniquely identifies the user. Would it help if we added the n... (more) |

A: What should I know when coming here from Stack Exchange? A recent comment asked: > Can answers address what the situation is about copying content from SE? Can I copy my own questions or answers over? Someone elses? Has anyone considered or tried copying them en masse? You can copy your own questions here. You own the content, so there are no licens... A: Comment threads with zero comments I'm guessing that this is due to timing, as you said in the question. I don't think it's worth trying to write code to find and fix these; if you notice them, feel free to flag and we can clean them up. I'll delete the one linked in this question. (more) |

A: Duplicate Mobile Sign In button in user profile shows on mobile I'm not sure why the button doesn't appear in the header on mobile. But even if it did (in a wide-enough window), it might not always appear -- some things drop out when space is tight. Given that, I don't think it's bad to have a place where it always shows up (your profile), in addition to a plac... (more) |

A: Show question title before community name in browser tab I think this is going to require more thought, because we need to do something that works for all instances, not just ours. Our browser titles have several elements: - favicon (this is configurable today) - network name ("Codidact"; I don't know where that's set) - community name (dynamic) ... (more) |
