@#36396 #2 allows many small edits in a short period of time to be coalesced in just one bump, instead of many bumps. This may not seem a big thing now that the traffic is low, but once the traffic increase it could be quite disrupting. (more) |

Yep, that's a bit annoying. Thanks for noticing that. Just yesterday I was going to write a "bug report" about it, but I was carried away IRL and forgot to do it.

Question | — |
Can we have different favicons for the different communities? I usually work with dozens of open tabs in my browser and even when using Codidact I have several tabs open pointing maybe at different posts on different communities and/or meta. Having different icons for different communities in the tabs of my browser would greatly speed-up my workflow, because... (more) |

Answer | — |
A: How to edit a post for small modifications without affecting the visibility of other posts? I like the idea, and I was going to suggest it myself. However, I also understand the concerns of @trichoplax about the risk of abuse, e.g. "sneaky edits" that could fly under the radar. I think a nice tradeoff solution would be IMO: 1. Allow minor edit checkbox only for people that have t... (more) |

Oh, well, it would have been nice to set the color of the text, but I agree it could be prone to abuse. (more) |

Question | — |
Can we have a preview pane for comments? I just had to reply to a staff member in a comment about some potentially "illegal" HTML code that can be entered in a post. I had to edit the comment about a dozen times because the code I entered didn't show up as intended when my comment was posted. This is extremely annoying and time wastin... (more) |

I entered this `[section style="color:red; font-size:80pt"]
Big Honking Title![/section]` (I had to change angular brackets in square ones otherwise the code didn't show in the comment) in a question edit form and the preview nicely complied :-)
IDK if the attribute would have been rejected when ... (more) |

Question | — |
Can we have a "show post source" button? Often I see a post which uses a formatting that I'd like to learn or to directly "steal". To see how it is done I'm forced to click the `edit` button, which is prone to mistakes and really doesn't seem "right" to my programmer's OCD POV. This is something that has bothered my greatly also Somewher... (more) |

Yes, keeping tracks of flags on the post page is very useful, especially if the traffic begins hopefully to rise.
I see some merit to being able to flag a post multiple time. Maybe you didn't notice something the first time and need to raise another flag. Editing the previous one could be misleadi... (more) |

@#8046 This problem also bothered me recently, and I was about to post a request, too. I don't know how the toggle works on Github. I'm not keen on side by side auto view. Sticky option seems best of the threee.
I'd suggest another one, which I don't know if it is feasible (don't know much of mode... (more) |

Thanks for the explanation. I'll refrain to enter HTML entities in guidance text in the future.
As for what the guidance text is for, well in EE Codidact tags are often descriptive of a specific thing (e.g. a device, a circuit, a component, a parameter), not a general concept (yes, we have someth... (more) |

Question | — |
Rendering bug of HTML entity in hover text for tags guidance. There is a problem with HTML entities in the tag guidance text. As you can see here I used an HTML entity (greek lowercase phi φ) to denote a technical quantity, and it shows nicely: tag guidance snapshot However in the hover text in tagged questions it appears not rendered, i.e. as `&... My point was that there is a counter and it isn't working. If we decide it is not needed, it should just be removed from the UI and avoid useless clutter. I have no strong opinion about that.
I could see a potential merit in that limit, though. Since the guidance text goes in a pop-up maybe there... (more) |

@#8046 I don't think everybody should have the ability to have this level of access to mods. It would be too prone to abuse. I think a new privilege is warranted. However, I see some merit to enable some sort of "mod pinging" for every user. I can't say, however, how you could enforce stricter limits... (more) |

Question | — |
When editing tags usage guidance character limit counter doesn't work. When I edit tags on EE.Codidact I've noticed that the character limit counter for the usage guidance remains at zero. Is it a known issue? Unless there is something wrong with my browser (Firefox) it is a bug. Note that the similar counter for comments works OK for me. (more) |

@#8046 Well, if that's a sort of semi-permanent two-way comm channel between a user and a mod, that's fine. I was worried the mechanism was just a sort of "flag message".
Clustering may not be so important if the messages can be given a sticky title: the title remains in effect until changed, so ... (more) |

@#8046 Please, consider changing the one-limit "ping" according to user privileges (maybe making a new privilege based on some other privileges and reps). High rep/privilege users that do janitorial work may have the need to ping mods more often, especially until some more tools for maintaining the s... (more) |

@#8046 Hi! News about this issue? I still can't see the `new` button. Moreover I'd like to be able to change the case of some tags and possibly delete some tags, sometimes for being too general or not useful, and sometimes because of typos. (more) |

I have neither one, just an edit button. I mentioned the merge trick before I had a chance to use it. I gave it for granted that having the ability of editing tags implied also the ability to merge them, but I didn't actually check the UI. (more) |

@#36396 Strangely enough, with the `–` the problem goes away! Maybe there is a restrict range of HTML entities that are supported in that context. It seems strange, anyway. (more) |

OK, good to know. I'll abstain from that trick. Anyway I just read of that trick and I didn't actually find a way to do it. Maybe it is something that can be done only with abilities I didn't earn yet? (more) |

@#36396 Mmm, this is maybe Country specific. I have seen many times that symbol used as a range indicator. I agree that an – could be used too. (...* going to check *...) Question | — |
HTML entities not showing correctly when editing tag WIKIs. I just edited a tag wiki in EE.CD here. I inserted a table in whose cells appears an HTML entity, namely the "div" symbol "÷". Inside the table that symbol is not rendered, but it is displayed as the corresponding entity, whereas during editing, in the tag WIKI preview pane, it showed up corre... (more) |

Question | — |
Adding a dummy tag to improve the process of nuking tags with the "merge trick". Would it be acceptable to create a dummy tag like `merge-into-this-for-nuking-another-tag` just to ease the usage of the "merge trick" described here to nuke a tag? Of course the usage would spell it out loudly to not to use the tag for tagging a question, and would explain the merge trick. T... (more) |

Question | — |
Can we have the ability to create tags without being linked to a question? As the title says. Rationale: I'm in the process of giving tags on EE.CD some structure and I feel that sometimes a group of tags could be usefully grouped under a parent which doesn't exist yet. This would force me to add a spurious, more general tag, to an already posted question and then use... (more) |

I definitely agree. No need to complicate the technical implementation for some very limited (if not just perceived) advantage. Most people don't even know what an URL exactly is (they just say "link"), let alone all their technical shenanigans. Just an example: many people I know think that "address... (more) |
