Comment Post #283632 Also, when composing a post, the button is initially disabled, and when you type enough text in the body it's enabled -- even before you fill in a title. Once you start to type the title it's disabled again until it's long enough. We should check *all* requirements, not just the active field, befor...

As you've seen, we have proposals for individual communities for economics, finance, and accounting, and this proposal for a combined community covering all three. We're not the experts; y'all are. Comment Post #283406 Sorry for the ambiguity. What's configurable is the rep change for the *recipient* of the vote. The voter's reputation doesn't change and we don't have a way to configure that.

Comment Post #280723 @#53078 we don't currently have rep changes for *casting* votes, so that's not configurable right now. There's an interesting discussion to be had there, I think: is rep loss the best way to keep downvoting in check, or is it just what we're used to from Somewhere Else? Should voting be limited in s...

Comment Post #283364 Are you visiting the links in the same tab, or are you launching other tabs? The notification doesn't "notice" that you've visited it if you open the link in another tab. (I'm not sure why. I don't think it's intentional so much as "how that code works".) If a notification is hanging around way p...

Comment Post #283336 It's a different place in the code but the same problem, so we should look to see what we did to fix the paste problem for posts (recent change) and apply the same pattern for comments and any other textboxes we can think of where it might be relevant.

Comment Post #283334 Oops. Thanks. I have an edit pending, but we need to fix a small bug before I can post it, so as soon as we do that we'll get this fixed. On *meta* there's no need to point to the global FAQ and ToS at *all*; Meta is already, well, meta, not a primary subject-matter community.

Comment Post #283318 Codidact does not make any claims of ownership; authors own their content. We require that it be *licensed* to us so that we can actually have that content on our public communities.

Comment Post #283318 If there is another license that makes sense to add for this community, we can do that. But any license must grant *us* the ability to publish and edit the content (part of normal operations), so it can't be "no rights".

Comment Post #283229 How would knowing specific votes help moderators? Knowing if there is a *pattern* of voting between two users can help in some cases, but for that you don't need to know the specific votes. For now, detecting voting abuse falls to the people with database access (mods should ask for help if they su...

Comment Post #283167 I wonder if we should support multiple duplicate targets? Somewhere Else we sometimes saw discussions like "this is closed as a dupe of X but should be a dupe of Y instead". Should we have a way to *add* a dupe suggestion to a dupe? If so, what should that look like?

Comment Post #283119 This is how CommonMark does it, yes. You'll see the same behavior on GitHub. Coming from SE I had to get used to it too, but it's just a difference in markdown implementations.

Comment Post #283079 @#53922 let's be consistent. Using two different names for the same action is confusing. "Link" (or "permalink") is just a link; you can visit or copy it. "Copy link" is an action, setting the value on the clipboard. Those are two different things. The name and the behavior should match, and in ...

Comment Post #282960 I meant configurable through the admin tools ("site settings"). We can modify the code to make limits configurable for a community the same way a bunch of other things are configurable, but right now it's baked into the code. The GH issue proposes changing that.

Comment Post #282984 I wonder about the performance impact of checking as you type -- it's one thing to update for a comment that caps out at 500 characters, but a 30,000-character post would be different. At the very least, though, if you *hit* the limit and a submission is rejected because of it, we should report the ...

Comment Post #280302 I think we can use comment threads (and the ability to follow them) to do this now. We can add a "follow this proposal" thread that people can follow, and when a proposal changes state we can comment in the thread and followers will be notified. It's still a manual process but at least it'll ping p...

Comment Post #282808 One site mechanic that should help us that we decided from there very beginning that answer "acceptance" is broken on SE. We sort by score, no pinning, and when we finish the feature, anybody will be able to say "worked for me" not just the person who asked the question. (I'm on mobile right now so d...

Comment Post #282808 I had that experience on SE too at times; if my well-researched answer was later than others, it might not get any attention while the ones at the top kept getting votes because they were at the top. I think the slower pace here helps with that too; nobody can read everything on some of SE's larger s...

Comment Post #282808 Thank you for sharing this perspective. I'm concerned about the FGITW/HNQ effect too, where a popular but wrong answer pushes others out of view. In case you haven't noticed this yet, we use a different ordering algorithm for answers here at Codidact to mitigate that. We use a scoring system that t...

Comment Post #282810 Chat is good for some things and some people, but we never intended to suggest that people must use it, especially when it's a third-party system. We shouldn't require that you trust, or want to have an account on, or want the hassle of Discord in order to get stuff done on Codidact. It's there for...

Comment Post #281378 TopAnswers has a similar approach. They have stars (only up, not down), and the number you can cast on a post is an exponential function of your received stars. A thing I like about this is that it's an *option*; as an expert in a topic I'd like to not have the full weight of that expertise affect ev...

Comment Post #282810 We have a Discord chat as an informal thing, but it's not directly tied to accounts here and not everyone uses it, and that's fine. Everyone should feel welcome to use meta (or flags if you think something shouldn't be public) to bring attention to issues.

Comment Post #282653 I hope you didn't read my response as criticizing the question -- not the intent at all! It's important for both the target community and the larger Codidact community to be able to discuss questions of community scope/boundaries/separation/integration.
