A: What is the "tools" button for? Is it meant to do anything? Thanks for the report. We're already aware of the bug and I've already written a fix; it'll be deployed soon. What happened? We have two functions to check for your abilities around a post `checkyourprivilege` and `checkyourpostprivilege`. The latter will also allow you to do something, if you are... (more) |

A: Move posts between different categories through edits? That should already be possible for every user with the Curate ability. There's a little "Tools" link below the post, which can be clicked and where "Change category" should be an option. (more) |

@Andyaka I don't get what you want to say? The Abilities system is based on the idea that we should give you the tools you have shown that you can be trusted to use them. Not everyone who's (for example) good at spotting off-topic posts is also good at editing posts. (more) |

Yep. You’re right. It’s a deleted post. Right now, notifications are not connected to specific elements (posts, comments, ...) and hence it’s not possible to hide them upon deletion. (more) |

Oops. Answered almost at the same time ;)
Might be worth noting, that claiming the posts once, *should* also apply to all future posts we import. The script we built for importing is following the rule of 'no risk, no fun', but besides that it should work. (more) |

@OlinLathrop your suggestion hasn't been ignored, because it mentions reputation. In fact, we'll keep reputation for quite a while, until we've found a suitable replacement for it. Your suggestion hasn't been responded to yet, because we just haven't had the personal time to come to it yet, some kind... (more) |

A: What does "post positive reception" mean in the context of abilities? The post score threshold for (some) Abilities is based on the on the score your post has. If your post score is larger than 0.5, the post counts as good post. If your post score is smaller than 0.5, the post counts as bad post (for the context of the Ability post score threshold). Every othe... (more) |

This has been on my list for a while, but I haven't had the time to give it some thought so far. I think for now, a list of all pending edit suggestions, without more fancy stuff like inline-view is enough, right? (more) |

A: Discrepancy between abilities and privilege page This is by design, as those pages serve different purposes: the overview page (/abilities) serves the purpose to give you quick summary, which Abilities exist and what a user may or may not do. For this, it doesn't matter how you got that Ability, so we are simplifying it. the detail page (/a... (more) |

@ghost-in-the-zsh eh... the database migrations themselves took far longer than we expected (for example: 20 mins for one (!) change), likely, because the post and user tables are much bigger than any table we have locally (that one change added a reference between posts and users) (more) |

(5) I'm hoping that we'll find a broad set of interested people through [this interest check post](https://meta.codidact.com/a/278946/278948). And I think, we won't need to have experts for every possible sub-topic of Privacy/Security at the beginning; they'll likely come over time. So if we had expe... (more) |

(4) for the email server question, I'd repeat my answer from (2). If something is just coincidental to privacy ("how do I set up a mail server"), it's IMHO off-topic, even though it may be caused by privacy aspects or considerations. (more) |

(3) you are right, that identifying posts as "illegal" is hard, especially with multinationality. Hence I was thinking, that only posts *clearly intended to break the law* should be off topic. So either it's obvious from the object (ex: buying drugs via TOR, child abuse/pornography) or it's obvious f... (more) |

(2) re helping with privacy: I'm thinking, that any such question which is connected to privacy not just coincidentally should be on-topic. So if you have a setup and ask how to make it more secure/privacy friendly, on-topic (within the rules for good vs bad questions). However, asking how to configu... (more) |

Thanks for your interesting questions. I'm going to try to answer them, but feel free to remind me of some if I forget them. (1) as I intended it, this is supposed to be more about e-privacy, with the aspects of non-digital data protection (laws). However, some people suggested to broaden the scope t... (more) |

Aye. Broadening the scope to more general "Security" might be a good idea. With regards to Crypto, I think anything that involves Crypto should be on-topic, also if it also includes Math. However, some math problem, that *coincidentally* is also relevant for Crypto, should be off-topic IMHO. (more) |

This is an interesting problem, I didn't really think about so far. I think the "official" term for this is "e-privacy", but as I understand it, the term excludes some aspects of data protection laws, namely how they are applied to non-digital data processing. Maybe "E-Privacy & Data Protection", or,... (more) |

@Lundin Some of these things may be covered by a Power User or a Law site, yes. However, given what I currently know of our current user base, I assume that there are more people able to contribute in a Privacy than a general Law site. And yes, illegal content is banned via the ToC, but does it harm ... (more) |
